"But there has been much unavoidable controversy along the way." -- Dave Paxton, musicOMH.com

Music Just in case you're wondering where I've disappeared off to, I'm just completing the massive and rambling Proms review I've been promising. In the meantime, here's a biting review of the last night on television:
"Earlier in the day, the England football team played Israel, and presenting the BBC broadcast were knowledgeable and informed sports commentators. In contrast, the Prom was presented on television by a gardener. Alan Titchmarsh is actually a very engaging host, but I wonder how people would react if he presented the World Cup."
Too true. There does seem to be something terribly wrong about all the various authoritative presenters who have worked so well across BBC Four and Radio 3 being usurped by a 'name' at the finishing post. Would general viewers really balk if the second half was introduced by Petroc Trelawny, Verity Sharp or Suzie Klein? Does it matter?
